EO Class 2: The History and Origin of Essential Oils
As promised, today I want to share with you the history of essential oils.
History of essential oils: Throughout recorded history, essential oils have been used in a lot of wellness applications. A quick Google search reveals that the Egyptians were some of the first people to use aromatic essential oils extensively in wellness, beauty treatments, food preparation, and religious ceremonies.
Biblical references: There are over 200 references to aromatics, incense, and ointments throughout the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. In fact, 36 of the 39 books of the Old Testament and 10 of the 27 books of the New Testament mention essential oils or the plants that produce them, including frankincense, myrrh, cinnamon, rosemary and hyssop. In Exodus, you will find a recipe given to Moses to create a holy anointing oil.
All Natural: The bottom line is that essential oils and the powerful natural constituents and compounds found within them have been revered for thousands of years, offering a variety of benefits from cosmetic and dietary purposes to spiritual and religious uses.
Simply put, they are natural and remarkably versatile...
- Some can support wellness all over the body.
- Some can support emotional well-being and spirituality.
- Others help clean and purify your home.
- Many can be added to food and drinks (purity matters!).
- Then many more are used in skin, hair and body products.
I hope you learned something today! The next time you hear from me, I will be telling you how it is that Young Living's essential oils are purest and THE MOST authentic oils you will find.
