Essential Oil Precautions
1. Always remember to keep essential oils out of the reach of children.
2. Never rub your eyes after handling essential oils.
3. Citrus oils should be avoided 24 hours before exposing yourself to the sun or to ultraviolet light, because they can cause photosensitivity.
4. If rashes, headaches, or nausea appear after using essential oils, discontinue use for a few days, and drink plenty of purified water. These are symptoms of the body’s detoxifying itself, and it is better not to stir up stored toxins faster than the body can release them.
5. Pregnant women should consult their doctors before using essential oils in general.
They should especially avoid the following: basil oil, bay laurel oil, black pepper oil, calamus oil, camphor oil, cedarwood oil, cinnamon oil, clary sage oil, clove oil, cumin oil, eucalyptus oil, fennel oil, frankincense oil, hyssop oil, juniper oil, myrrh oil, nutmeg oil, oregano oil, peppermint oil, rosemary oil, sage oil, spikenard oil, nutmeg oil, rosemary oil, tansy oil, and tarragon oil. It is better to wait until after giving birth to use them. Pregnant women should use extreme caution with these essential oils because the term of pregnancy may be affected.
