Lemongrass Essential Oil
A Cheerful Aroma for Cleansing & Upliftment
An Introduction to Lemongrass
Lemongrass essential oil is a powerful and versatile tool, valued for its potent energetic properties and its wonderfully refreshing aroma. Its fantastically cheerful, uplifting, and invigorating scent is described as a strong, fresh, lemony, and grassy-earthy top note.
The Essence of Lemongrass: Sourcing & Chemistry
Native to tropical Asia, Lemongrass is a perennial grass whose oil is steam-distilled from the fresh leaves. Its powerful aroma is defined by a high concentration of citral (65-88%), a key component from the Aldehydes chemical family. The C. flexuosus species is often preferred commercially for its high citral content.
The Energetic Signature
In Pranic Aromatherapy, Lemongrass is a "happy oil" identified with pink, green, and yellow prana. This combination is used for cleansing, disintegrating negative energy, and uplifting the emotions. It primarily affects the Middle Chakras like the Heart and Solar Plexus.
Applications for a High-Vibration Lifestyle
Energetic Space Cleansing
Lemongrass oil is excellent for purifying your home or office. Its potent aroma helps to create a clean-smelling and refreshing atmosphere.
DIY Cleansing Spray
To create a purifying spray, add 15-20 drops of Lemongrass oil to four ounces of water or vodka. Use it to refresh rooms and cleanse a space of bad odors or stagnant energies.
Aromatic Blending
Lemongrass blends beautifully with herbaceous and floral oils like Rosemary, Lavender, and Geranium, as well as woody oils like Cedarwood. A blend with Lavender and Rose creates a powerful synergy for emotional and spiritual well-being.
CRITICAL SAFETY GUIDELINES
Use With Extreme Caution
- Potent & "Hot" Oil: Lemongrass is a dermal irritant. NEVER use it undiluted on the skin, as its high citral content can cause strong irritation.
- Very Low Dilution Required: For any topical use, a maximum concentration of 0.7% is recommended (approx. 2-3 drops per 1 ounce of carrier oil).
- Pregnancy: Avoid using Lemongrass oil while pregnant.
- Other Conditions: Caution is advised for individuals with glaucoma or prostatic hyperplasia.
